That single is a super lame attempt at Meshuggah or something. At least it’s not a Spencer ballad

appreciate the attempt at something different but yeah the heavy side is honestly my least favourite side of Periphey's sound and thought it was kinda boring

It's a hard pill to swallow but this new song pretty much confirms that Periphery have stagnated creatively. Quite literally, all they want to do is" rip off Meshuggah". Which Misha has said that's all he wants to do many times in the past.

I wouldn’t say their heavy side is my least favorite at all, Reptile is probably their best song for me. But this is overly simplistic and heavy without the other facets of their music (or Meshuggah’s) that make it interesting

i dont think its an attempt to rip off meshuggah. the track being 2:59 long is def intentional, going for a 'short, simple banger' no doubt, which is not Meshuggah worship. nor is it something Periphery really do either, so im not sure i agree its creatively shot (doing another 8 minute long prog affair bouncing between heavy and clean would be more been-there-done-that). It's just that it isnt playing to their strengths

Periphery know how to make groovy catchy heavy jams like Frak The Gods. But this new single is so bland and boring, talent wasted because Misha refuses to write intricate guitar parts anymore.

Unfortunately yes agree. This song definitely feels like it was a Misha song through and through. Hoping for more Mark and Jake input in other songs.

But even that single Misha did with Tosin was rad. It’s like these dudes come together and write junk despite all of them being crazy talented

think you guys are selling it a bit short lol. its as beefy as they've ever sounded. the bass has never been higher in the mix and i think the baritone guitars distinguish it a lot from the rest of their chuggy stuff.
blood eagle it is not, but its a fun ripper. album is apparently like 12 tracks 46min with a bunch of songs in the ~3min range... large departure from the last few.

Well hopefully with these shorter tracks, they’re more of a return to form of earlier jams like Passenger and Icarus Lives

I'm happy to see shorter length tracks. P5 felt like an expiremental album that had so much random shit thrown into it that it resulted in an album that was WAY too long, lacked any consistency, and ultimately made the album really uninteresting except for like one or two tracks. I also appreciate the deviation from their repetitive album titles and artwork. That, to me, shows perhaps more maturity that hopefully will be present on the album itself. I have high hopes this time around.

I like the atmosphere of this song better than on most of their stuff. Also as I said before, this is probably the best they've ever sounded in terms of production.
On top of that, I think being more straight to the point fits them better than trying too hard to be prog (last album was a good/bad example)

New song rips. Also I agree I'm stoked for the shorter songs, this album was a long mess of nonsense.

I don't tend to like this band but that new single is actually pretty great
