I catch shit for not liking that one all the time. I think the main issue was the line-up change, it just didn't feel right. One of these days it will sink in maybe

Fall of Hearts was their biggest grower album for me. Night is the New Day was very immediate for me, and where they really hit their stride in their new era but FOH took some time to really sink in. I really enjoy it every time I give it a spin these days.

I feel like they've been in a creative rut and floundering for a bit, especially with the line-up changes, and while this album is in a way more of the same, this feels way more focused. There's a distinct feeling of 'everyone wants to be here' that is palpable and I love it.”

NITND, Fall of Hearts, City Burials are my top 3 modern Katatonia. I’m pretty indifferent to Dead End Kings. I don’t know if that is weird take amongst fans. But bottom line is every album has some absolute gems. Their albums are also growers. It took a few years for City Burials to go from a 2.5 to a 4. I think that’s half the problem with their sound nowadays - patience and repeat listening helps. And this new one is no different - 4 tracks hit me hard no doubt.

While Fall of Hearts has some tracks that are perhaps superior to everything on this record, the way all the tracks on this one interlink to make something greater than the sum of its parts is pretty remarkable. This album flows and fits together really well.

Huh, it's like they went radio rocky but also NITND throwback at the same. Colossal Shade and Drab Moon definitely scratch an interesting itch. The TFoH-y No Beacon is welcomed too. Oh and the chorus of Author is already stuck in my head. I'm a lot more curious to have my first full listen now

yeah wiz, but what's wrong about it? they are not going tor reinvent the wheel 30 years into their career. God forbid they change an inch, they are perfect as they are. If the next album is like this one I'll 4 it again.
And so on.

people speak of comfort zone with late Katatonia (even TFoH somehow lol) but I actually think they're genuinely alienated instead. Stuff like the handclappy feel of Opaline is aggressively weird from Katatonia. CB had the glorious-feeling opener which I suspect felt strange too, etc
