Elegy is a really good album but this feels funner to me. Lots more going on even if I don’t love all of it.

Get around to SoI's previous two yet? I still like Elegy more than this but I think it's easily their worst outing.

Assemble the Chariots also play blackened deathcore, I especially dig the song "Engulfed by Sun", it's like dimmu borging meeting deathcore and early born of osiris arpeggios

Nice review

I personally prefer the Shadow of Intent album but only listened to this Lorna album once so far.

Fair enough. Glad you're liking this one so much. I'll need a few more listens to fully decide how I feel. I think the relative tameness of the Shadow of Intent album might work in its favour for me; I get a bit of ear fatigue listening to a full Lorna Shore album. Either way, I agree with your review for the most part.

jfc that last drop in the final track is so poorly mixed it reverberated throughout my entire body for a solid ten seconds

Flesh Coffin has their most variety if you're actually looking to get into them. But yeah, coming from a deathcore fan... it's still mainly a deathcore album at the end of the day.

"Maybe I'll give it a last spin. I want to understand what is appealing about this lol"

Different strokes for different folks. Lots of DM fans can't do the breakdowns. Not a fan of those either but Soulless Existence is a metal masterpiece. Start there.

Finally got around to listening to this. Easy 4 with room to grow. Much more engaging than I anticipated and album as a whole is way better than those first 3 singles

Oh i agree over an hour of deathcore is what put me off from checking this at first anyway lol. The wall of sound can get tiring for sure. I actually loved the opener and Soulless Existence the most on the first run. So lots of good tracks to dissect here

Ok, have to lower this to 3.5. Was really hard to get through the album a second time. The melodic riffs are nice, and the outro to the final track is magical, but the BM riffs are actually awfully samey and the breakdowns are so exaggerated they're just hard to get through.

Still better than angelmaker, but I'd probably take the "tamer" shadow of intent over this
