@Volt - I have the feeling either Chris & Dom have never learned to say "No" to Matt or they're in on the joke

hearing You Make Me Feel Like It's Halloween for the first time is the hardest I've laughed all week - it's so lame I love it

Fuck me sideways, the music video is even worse - remember 80s horror movies? Remember Christine? Remember IT? Remember The Shining?

"but when it comes to ‘We are F*cking F*cked’, you have to stand up and clap like Shia LaBeouf at the ridiculous spectacle unfolding in your very ears."

I genuinely did clap at the end - what an absolute circus of a song, good grief that was incredible

This album is simultaneously a 1.5 and 4.5 - it's genuinely made more boring by the "good" tracks like Won't Stand Down and Verona, they should've just doubled down and made the most OTT album possible

I guess the ironic enjoyment is a reactionary thing - give it a month and everyone will have forgotten about this album because, as you say, it definitely seems like they haven't tried. The album theme is "Stick it to the man"? Oh really Muse, you're very daring today aren't you?

If this IS them trying, then that's just so much more depressing

‘Muse sort of reminds me of the Madden gaming franchise’

😂 this is so bizarrely on point having played Madden for a few seasons before giving up on it, that’s EA for you - they’ve done the same with FIFA. A series of ‘updates’ masquerading as brand new products with supposedly revolutionary new features / ‘depth’ etc.

Awful album. The worst by Muse. They are not even trying anymore.

Oh, Chris and Dom are most certainly in on the joke. It's too goofy for them to not to have been like "Hey, we put out a few great albums, let's just have fun this time."

I totally understand the hate for this, but the schlock here is so appealing to me lol. Plus there’s a couple of glimmering moments to be had

Well I never. In fact, I openly admit that it’s bad and that I hated it when I first heard it. But I just got to a point where I ended up cheering it on in an ironic way, rather than loathing it.

It’s just a fun album.

I knew this would be polarising and leaning more towards hate, it's obvious why haha.

It's also a weird one for me, because I don't typically have albums I love for the sake of being shite haha, but for some reason Muse achieved that here.

Thoughts after finishing my second listen:

1) Compliance is the worst song I've heard in years (admittedly, I tend to avoid listening to things I'm confident I'll hate), it has no redeeming qualities I can find.

2) The opener and closer are both awful, but at least have great humor value

3) Kill Or Be Killed and Ghosts are the only obvious keepers, for different reasons

4) The rest of the album is weak but approaches passable

A train wreck of an album, but an interesting one to discuss

I used to get real mad at the cluster fuck of an album Muse kept releasing but this is the first one I kept my expectations literally in the basement & now I’m just like fuck it this band has no intention of being taken seriously anymore so just find ways to enjoy some of it & go back in time if you have the need to listen to their serious attempts at writing albums. That’s helped me to just have fun with WotP & Halloween. And then be pleasantly surprised with Verona despite still being covered in some of that Muse cheese.
