Idk this just sounds like generic rock instrumentals with demi on it. Not bad but not anything special.

we need to stop talking about this album right now.
I won't stand another washed-up popstar going pop-punk because it's what tiktokers like now. Let the genre die peacefully.

I like pop-punk too, but so much of this Tik Tok-era stuff just sounds really homogeneous to me. Like you could just copy and paste the drums and guitar parts from one album to another, revise the lyrics and vox a bit, and boom. Another hit. I'm probably oversimplifying and generalizing it to a degree, but there just something really... idk, cynical about this current wave of pop-punk records
None of this is to shit on your opinion of course, and I liked your review. Just my two cents

yeah this wave of pop punk is even more generic and homogenous than the 2000s wave. its not naturally, spontaneously fun to me, but incredibly calculated and soulless
its quite literally everything punk shouldnt be, and i know thats a bit of a tired point (everyone hates the 'real punk' punks, and for good reason), but theres something about rich celebrities writing lyrics about rebellion and teenage angst that feels incredibly disingenous

although i never really liked pop punk to begin with except for a period as a teenager when i was super into blink-182. revisited them recently and do not enjoy it at all except for the track Dammit and a couple of others
pop-punk was always pretty bad imo, just too limited in scope from the outset

I also love pop-punk, and I actually like some of MGK's Downfall album. But I don't hear any sincerity here. It's like Demi heard Avril Lavigne's last album and decided to copy paste everything in hope to be relevant.. plus it's super boring.
Edit: Mort said what I wanted to say better.

One of my favorite examples of an out-of-place artist (on paper) is Norah Jones on "Sucker" by Peeping Tom. You'd think a seductive trip-hop song fronted by Mike Patton wouldn't be a good fit for a Norah feature, but she does surprisingly well on it. Plus, it's probably the first time she's ever cussed on a song, lol

This aint even pop punk anyway, its more just general radio metal i'd say. Or at least parts of it are. Her first two albums were pop-punk/pop-rock

"Radio metal is somewhat accurate. Certain songs are definitely pop-punk (Substance, City of Angels), but overall this is like a radio metal/pop-punk hybrid. It's actually kind of cool in my eyes. I expected this to be divisive though so at the same time I'm not surprised that plenty of people hate this."
I agree there. This was always going to be a really divisive album, and i'm sure an established pop star with a pretty negative public opinion such as Demi would be aware of this anyway. I think it's bold of her, and commendable, to go through with what she wanted (even though she didn't write anything here other than the lyrics) rather than what other people would want her to do.
