There are a good number of bands that make thrash worth listening to imo
The inherent quality/experimentation ceiling that thrash has (imho) is a thing that exists and holds the genre back from offering anything near what say dm does, but if u dig the central style there is plenty that the genre offers
Probably third fav metal subgenre after dm and sludge

They definitely broke that experimentation ceiling and went through the roof. But idk I've never really listened to them as a thrash band, at least not since Nothingface. On the other hand, the best thrash bands are definitely the ones that are most non-generic. Depends on how broadly you choose to define thrash of course etc etc

coroner is another example of an awesome thrash band
