Or I guess a better wording would be "the major grunge bands' heydays"

While it's true of Grunge albums, I think the same holds true of any classic album tbh. Classic albums are supposed to be timeless. Just so happens the grunge movement put out a lot of classic albums simultaneously.

I think Egarran's point was just about how well grunge aged in general. Hell, it's aged a lot better than most of the hair metal of the previous decade, that's for sure

Yup Koris got it.
It holds true of most classic albums like Sitar says, but something in the sound of many classics easily place it in a time period. Imo grunge seems more timeless.
Also considering that grunge was often treated like a contemporary thing that would get irrelevant as time passed.

The themes are timeless the tunes are dated.

I wouldn't consider this butt rock tbh, I see that term as more apt for stuff like Nickleback/Creed

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't apply the butt rock term to the original grunge artists

This isn't really butt rock to me- too atmospheric ig- but Badmotorfinger, Ten and to a lesser extent Nevermind do all have a certain dudebro appeal in a similar lane, I think anyone who liked Silver Side Up would be able to intuit why "Rusty Cage" or "Jeremy" is good

I'll make a concession for about half of this on the atmosphere card, bum at the very least the opening pair and Hate to Feel are consigned to the backside of butt rock love em or leave em for it
And anyone drawing a line between the cheeks of grunge and post grunge as though they're not separate sides of the same arse is full of crap

I'd go closer to two thirds than half but yah opener (love it) and the other two you singled out (leave em) can hang with early Staind or w/e else

I don't think this album will ever show its age. It feels like it was built to be excellent material for any era of music.
