I've always had a soft spot for The Hunter, I think Mastodon do simple groovy rock/metal bangers well.

Nothing can top that run from Remissions to Blood Mountain tho imo.

If I keep coming back to this album I may 4'5 again someday. I just love the overall consistency, it makes me oscillate beteen 4'1 and 4'3 all the time. Not a single bad moment here, just a few transitional flaws.

Still finding the last track like a Pelican's track with vocals, makes me grin every time.

I'll try. I'm already thinking about the next time I'm going to jam this.

The 2nd half is way stronger than the first, the singles are easily my least favourite songs which seems to be the norm aside from Oblivion which is one of the best modern rock songs ever.

Everything from Had It All onwards is top tier Mastodon, really floored me. Wish it had a stronger first half and the drum production wasn't so weak, it only really cuts through on Gigantium.

Hmm interesting, I find the first half way stronger, the first two tracks and the singles are top tier Mastodonino. I've just gave it another pass until Dagger, 10 tracks, and gonna leave it there and jam the rest later in the afternoon to get a better feeling of that second half.

Both halves are outrageously good, but right now I'm *ever so slightly* leaning towards the second half. Everything here goes hard, though.

For me everything is perfectly balanced. All songs rule.

I just love how this combines all of Mastodon's eras so well. You'd think that releasing an album like that would be a mess, especially given its length, but the balance is just right.

Sowing’s greatest metal hits list should be a good read.
