that is because they are different songs from the rest

I think it’s because the rest is more metal-charged and doomy than those two.

>The Necklace
>not doomy
big hmmMm - maybe because Void in Virgo and The Necklace are the most emotionally engaging? IDK, but yeah there's definitely a tenderness in these two that isn't present in the others
Though saying that, Get Out the Tower is fucking intense with the "NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER MEANT TO BE"

Get Out of the Tower is the most crushing probably. I wish the singing was different in that song, or was just an instrumental.
I guess The Necklace is doomy, but in a different way. It’s very hazy and almost proceeds like a post-rock or post-metal song, and with these warm synth tones.

God The Necklace is just so good - I'll admit that the imagery is a little bit on the nose with the subject matter, but the wave of warm, all-encompassing sound as soon as Toby sings "A broken heart, a broken neck" is so achingly beautiful

Can't stop listening to this album. Every spin reveals something new. If this is not my AOTY I would be quite surprised.

I feel like more people would be busting a nut to this album if they knew it existed. I feel bad for Toby when I listen to interviews where he says Kayo Dot has been grinding and touring for like 18+ years and he feels like they haven't gotten very far. Especially in contrast to that single he released not too far back called N.G.H.4.M (Never Gonna Happen for Me). It'd be nice if he could like get a win and this album gained some traction.

It was nice to see his Alora Crucible album from this year be nominated for a Grammy.

Do people who like kayo dot care about live performances? That's always what I wonder when I hear toby talk about touring.

Void in Virgo, Spectrum of One Colour, and Get Out of the Tower is such an insanely good stretch

I've seen Kayo Dot 3 times live, and only one of the times sucked, and it wasn't Kayo Dot's fault. They were booked at a shitty dank club, with the worst mix I ever heard. It was for the Blasphemy tour. I mentioned it on Kayo Dot's IG page, and Toby replied saying he remember that show and that he's still pissed about it.

I don't doubt that they're good live, I'm just wondering whether people who like complicated stuff like that care less about live performance relative to music quality than most people

I've only seen them once and it was in Phoenix, they rarely come this far out. I was pretty blown away by the performance, I only had videos online to go off of and they don't sound super great, but in person it was an experience.

Eh maybe it was my stupid car sound system. The bass kept going in and out. Will check this on my half decent headphones. Cool stuff so far, the type of cringey weirdness you also find on maudlin is what I struggle with.

Yeah this album must be listened with dedication. Also the bass lines are a highlight here
