New album is sick. Punky af [2] yet also strangely melodic at times. Bleeding Horizon is like Armory of Obsidian Glass pt. 2
Also those features are MINT.

Better than this but I wouldn’t say it’s as good as Trumpeting Ecstasy or Weeping Choir

Judging by the incomprehensible artwork I thought they'd go all out on the weirdness but it's another relatively "grounded" FoH record. Not a bad thing but slightly disappointing

Yeah, it’s almost too grounded
I wanted to see them expand on the power noise / droning weirdness. It seems v good for what it is, just a bit of a ‘backtrack’ in some ways. Will check again tho

Yeah I expected a glitchy, noisy mindfuck track and it never came lol
Still a rad record tho the t/t is so... catchy?

@demon this is exactly why the early stuff is my favorite. Rudiments of Mutilation had such a seamless meld of the powerviolence and noise/drone and then the Merzbow collab was just that but tighter and more extreme. The deathgrind stuff is ok but they haven’t really done anything that felt as natural as those early works
Oh yes the collabs with The Body are sick as hell too
|
| |
They're never going to top And Merzbow but that's an incredibly high bar to clear
|

The sister fawn disc is rad too but I consider that just the other half of the album

Yeah the Merzbow collab is defo my fave, but I like where they were going with this one, just didn’t quite follow though with promise
I still really dig this iteration of their sound tho

They just seem like they lack a fully defined identity rn. I don’t hate it at all, but the new EP just seemed like genre soup in a way that wasn’t as compelling as what they’ve come up with in the past. I think going death metal after the Merzbow collab was a misstep. They were really honing in on a tight, noisy grind thing that was singular and unique.

I agree that they've always had a bit of an identity crisis but I do dig the new EP lol.

..it’s fine, but im gonna spend all weekend with the Daoboys record when im literally gonna be seeing FoH on Monday. You’d think I’d be more hyped for new material from these guys.
They were at their peak with Weeping Choir imo

right on man, I thought it was a big step in the right direction for these guys, even tho I still dug this it really felt like Coagulated Bliss was gonna be a kind of a make or break moment for them at least with me. They couldn’t just do another record in the style of the little trilogy of Trumpeting Ecstasy - Weeping Choir - This, that would’ve felt real redundant. I’m glad they took a couple of swings at other shit with Coagulated and it felt like a lot more hits than misses.
And a Jacob Bannon feature is always tight to see
New EP really just kinda makes me wonder what they’re even really trying to do… feels like some b sides from this era with a couple of noisier tracks. Only listened to it once tho, hoping they skip most of it when I see them next week.
