it's pretty lush and approachable compared to most of this
what caught my ear immediately was ashes, jabal, prison, piel, prière, and hajar...basically the weirder, more exploratory tracks
I don't think there's a wrong favorite here though...I was taken by the entire experience

for sure, man. Been a while since i listened to an album that felt like it brought me on a journey, and this certainly made me feel exactly that

that's awesome :-) sometimes music starts to stagnate for me and it gets sort of depressing, so it's awesome when something like this comes along and jolts me back to life
last time that happened with a *new/unknown* artist was probably low roar's 0 back in 2015
hopefully it can do the same for others, too

This sure feels like an album that can do just that. This has forhcoming cult status written all over it.
Havent heard of Low Roar but i will get around to check it out sometime

For me it's when he starts singing about fish in that high pitched voice right before the clanging and rattling starts on ashes

Slight rating adjustment based on replay values mostly. That said, I think I'm happy to not change this score between now and the end of year lists.

For its length I actually find this really easy to get through. It has never felt like 109 minutes to me.
My main problem is that with music always playing in the Sowing household, neither the wife nor small child like dark/frightening/dissonant/experimental electronic droning haha. So I can pretty much only play this when alone. I guess Lord Huron will be the flavor of the weekend in terms of what to play in the living room.

@Nocte: Top soundoff is "Wow talk about your snoozers." So, actually, it should be perfect!
@Lasseg: And usually they're into all the freak shit too, so win/win. The problem is if/when you have a little one. I don't even know, maybe my kid would love this album. I'd just feel wrong subjecting him to it when he sort of doesn't have a choice lmao.

This is totally an album that the kids should discover on their own or be presented to in their teens.
My chuldhood was mostly a-ha and the Tarzan soundtrack by Phil Collins so cant say my parents subjected me to any weird or hardcore music lol. I wouldnt try that either when or if i ever get kids
Imagine showing a child The Downward Spiral og Marilyn Manson hahah

When my son was an infant I used to jam the hell out of whatever I wanted because I knew he wouldn't remember any of it. Hopefully I didn't ruin him on some kind of subconscious level.
But now that he's to the point that he understands everything, I try to limit his exposure to *pleasant, if not the Disney type of stuff you mentioned.
*pleasant = indie-folk, pop, and lightweight rock

Agreed. Good thing i mostly listen to indie folk and pretty lush stuff anyways then!

Yup, same boat here. It's not a huge adjustment but it does require me to limit the scope of my Dvne and Iosonouncane listening, among other 2021 releases that just don't offer much to a 2 year old.
