sputnik has gotten significantly more mellow these last few years. rym is the exact opposite. however, I dare say that rym potentially has *better* taste in metal than sput does (embarrassing xD)
increased attention to modern hypetrains seem to kinda homogenize rym userbase taste, but I assume sputnik was exact same way early on and to this day. these are, of course, just observations from the outside looking in :]

get the feeling to some extent this is always true in any kind of social/community-oriented site where people can recommend stuff to each other
on the bright side, music is getting attention
music that might not otherwise get attention is getting more attention... so i cant poopoo things too much regardless of whether i personally think its "worthy" or whatever

I just like finding the unexplainable hyped albums with less than 100 ratings

"why does rym taste seam more homogenised"
at least when i first joined rym, of course there are the huge albums everyone listens to (beatles, ok comp, etc.), rymers (in my experience) tended to have a pretty significant niche that they held onto, rather like how Deviant. was known for being big into electronic but most users at the time (early 2010s) were not.
the preeminence of sputnikcore made it so there were like dozens albums that you could count on the 50+% of the user base to have heard. so sputnik wasn't really like that.

I'll never understand why RYM hypes useless records like this one. Are people that desperate for a new "artsy" artist/band? This sounds alright I guess but after hearing the first couple of tracks, to me at least, it becomes instantly apparent this is heavily inspired by others rather than genuine. While being dangerously close, it doesn't sound 100% faux-as-sh*t like Black Midi or Black Country New Road, so it can have that compliment from me.

That seems like a common though if you wander the rym comment box. Many straws are being grasped.
