The song with Liz Harris is very cute, rather like The Cure, I think. That's the only song I come back to.

i don’t like the newer grouper vocal production on a song with percussion it does not sound good to me

I've listened to this twice now and, tho I liked Rumpus Room pretty distinctly, this whole thing is so amorphous that I have no clue what to make of it

Agreed, feels more like a compilation than a coherent album.

Love the evolution from despondency in the opening (literally opens with a pleading “no no no”), wavers between defensiveness (The Grifters) and suicidal ideation (Goodbye for Good), and matches the musical mood to it, and rides the waves of anger and depression throughout the middle before ending on a defiantly optimistic tone with Dymphna/Knock Out/Bottle of Rum, which all seem like middle fingers stuffed into the face of the instances of abuse depicted over the rest of the album (and the rest of the Xiu discog)

i feel like calling an album where every song has a feature a compilation album makes sense but it doesn't make me like it less. rumpus room is truly so bad tho

Agreed that landing this as a comp is a wack take. As porc said a few comments back, almost all the features are integrated into the (very consistent!?) palette evenly and the way the tone shifts from track to track scans to me. Haven't engaged enough with the lyrics to comment on whether it's that holistic a statement, but I can think of a ton of albums with less unity or continuity that this

Well done to whoever was responsible for ‘Angel Guts’ hitting the heady heights of 3.5. A flurry of very positive ratings.
