Just about one of the weirdest, most complicated, but definetely best albums of all time. Yeah, perkele.

if i had a single favorite album of all time, i mean ALBUM, it would have to be Lateralus. TF by NIN is up there (i know get more dark themes right ^_^), but i really get a lot more out of listening to Lateralus. I think it beats the wall.

My friend showed me this. if you listen to lateralus and listen specifically to the lyrics like how he talks about spirals and stuff you can make what maynard calls the"heavenly gift" i think thats what he calls it anyway.. but what it is, is the cd in different order.. you rearange each song and they blend together in a different way.i could go on and on about it and tell you the order but i cant think of it off the top of my head.

Maybe someone has brought this up already but i've been wondering... Any particular reason why Tool spells the album "Lateralus" but the title track "Lateralis" on the back of the CD?

One of the best albums ever made.Alex Grey does amazing cover art,and the meaning of the whole album and every song in it is complex and kickass.I can't believe how Maynard screams from 6:58 - 7:23 in "The Grudge".And the lyrical genius of every song just makes it even better.I'll never get sick of this album. Not one song sounds alike on this.

their best effort and by far the most interesting record of the last few years

The sound at the beginning of The Grudge always struck me as the sound a washing machine makes, though I don't know why that would be. The interlude in Ticks'n'Leeches just sounds like guitar/bass and Maynard murmuring various nonsensicals, with some effects and such layered around it.

Anyway. The review sucks.

Maybe I'll put my own spin on this album later. I've got some time and am in a review writing phase

Favorite album of all time, bar none. Above even Dark Side of the Moon. The complexity of this is amazing, even more so on songs like Lateralus, Parabol/Parabola, and Disposition/Reflection/Triad.

By the way, to the person that asked earlier, the title track being spelled Lateralis was a miss-print.

I just pulled this album out after 2 years of listening only to jazz. I haven't listened to all of it yet, but I must say that I'm still blown away by Danny Carey's drumming.

The start of the Grudge has what sounds like a giant turbine being switched on. As for the T&L interlude, I'm not familiar with it offhand and I'm too lazy to listen.

the interlude of ticks and leeches ( I think) is Maynard screaming except its just really quiet. Then later in the interlude he is saying suck me dry very quietly. The sounds in the beginning of the grudge is just a machine sound reminds me of a tape player.

Greatest album that ever touched my ears. lcouldnt agree more with your review. Reflection shoulld somehow be transformed (but still kept exactly the same) into an anthem for some little country that all us tool fans will then move to.
