I mean in a universe where the sole metric for music is whether it slays or not, yes it slays
and wth, you haven't heard the Beyond?

Don’t worry he has. Admittedly I read your comment as ‘The Beyond After’ and wondered what it was, so he may have done the same.
It’s completely unfair to compare this to one solitary release of such magnitude, especially if we’re talking about the production. They scratch different itches for me anyway, despite having some similar elements. I still think the production is absolutely on point here, the prog elements are incorporated without detracting from the overall atmospheric experience and the heavier moments do indeed crush.

I think it's entirely appropriate to make that comparison bc as far as I'm concerned, this has next to no atmospheric experience and the heaviness of individual sections barely resonates beyond the (obviously massive) moments of their delivery. Maybe this is a pacing flaw too - outside of the opening pair, I think this record might be too concise for its own good - but this mix is absolutely too dry to lift it from a decent slapfest to a serious keeper, and The Beyond has exactly the right balance of tones that would have benefitted this

Oh beyond...right...that one slays too, but fairly more atmospheric....different hitches are scracthed here...there s a fairly more post hxc/metalcore vibe here...makes it a little less organic I guess (think the last Zao f.e.)? Again...you re taking the sludge perspective in your analysis too much in count here prob Jhonny.

Yeah you're probs right tbh... Dammit, when are those mxc kids gonna learn to stretch their legs :'[

Yeah Johnny it sounds like you want different things from what this record offers. I like it’s concise nature - there’s still plenty to get your teeth into, it just leans on full-throttle hardcore more than sprawling builds and ‘twinkly’ ambience. Fair enough re the production, we can just disagree there.
I already said it was tempting to want this fleshed out even more, but that you often need to be careful what you wish for. Maybe next time?

I think the guitars have plenty bite to them. It isn't as drenched in static as it could be, but it definitely isn't so polished that it loses any sort of edge to it, especially with the help of the bass. The diversity of the riffs also helps with the atmosphere, which I don't think you give enough credit too necessarily; the band pays plenty of attention to the mood of an individual track in terms of the tone of the instruments, most notably in the second half.

Yeah I love the diversity of riffs here, every track feels like it brings unique elements to the table, yet it all contributes to the journey as a whole.

Why no rate yet Demon...that divided between 4.5 and 5?

Oh man, it’s a bit soon for a 5! I was going to rate their debut first, I can imagine this will be ‘superb’ - maybe 2nd fave this year (could be no.1).

I know you ll prob 4.5 this time..thus my question
Whenever I think on checking the debut, or the split you mentioned before, I just put this on again (I'm still on that phase lol).

I can't 5 this when a record like Symbology of Shelter exists. This is super good, but it isn't quite on that level yet.

Apparently I haven’t listened to Noise Trail Immersion, even though I could have sworn I had. Looks like I have some homework to complete.
