The NME review for this was horseshit iirc, but beyond that it's good to see a range of opinions on it in mainstream press.
"it’s the pedestal the band have been placed on to present them as representative of the youth and the frontmans mum was an actress on one of the biggest if not the biggest shows of all time."
lmao yes, the extent to which he has to virtue signal to shake this is kinda hysterical

I've split this album into two playlists for myself and I listen to them a lot more than the actual album.
Electronic version: https://open.spotify.com/user/oisincoleman65/playlist/0fJTM65pf2KxBl4EwER7nj
Alternative/Indie version: https://open.spotify.com/user/oisincoleman65/playlist/57ZqFqXKPd7GrdBDzs89rX

all the bombast and boringness aside, the reason I still pay attention to this group is that when the songs are good they are quite good. Even something like What Should I Say, which isn't my type at all, has been stuck in my head for days

This is low-key a Snide album
For sure this would be better if made into two LP's instead of the switching between alternative and electronic/ambient. Music is pretty nice though, very good in places

"I could make a very good 10 track LP out of this 22 track album."
^ this pretty much sums it up for me. They def know how to write great pop songs, but there's just way too many tracks on this.

Haha. When I said that I was just hoping to convey how much of this album feels like needless padding. I think someone who likes their electronic stuff will feel differently.

I think someone who likes ‘electronic stuff’ will feel it is a generic meandering heap of nothing, that only adds depth on a superficial level. It is just padding.

*someone who likes electronic stuff beyond this will feel their electronic stuff is a generic, meandering [etc]

Well yeah, that reads better. My attempt at mocking went slight wrong. I was taking Sowing’s comment to say someone who generally likes electronic stuff, not The 1975’s electronic stuff.
