You seem to be picking a singular moment in their discography and conflating that into some sort of competition. I'm in no way disrespecting Trivium. I'm just pointing out that on average ABR are more progressive than Trivium and that ABR feature quite a few solos. My point is merely that ABR was a poor point of comparison.

Vengeance Falls is great dude. Its the album where Heafy finally let his sensitive side loose. Just listen to Incineration: The Broken World again to see what I mean.

I'm not expecting anything when I listen to an album for the first time. In Waves didn't have Shogun levels of intricacies and it was still good. Vengeance Falls is just not a good album nor is it interesting enough to listen to more than 3 times. Shit is just BORING.

I've listened to Vengeance Falls at least a few dozen times over the years. Hasn't gotten boring for me yet, it's the closest they've ever gotten to truly getting me in the feels. Trivium isnt really the band you go to when you want to cry it out, so the fact they were able to pull it off is impressive to me.

Damn. Bending The Arc to Fear is actually kind of awesome. Not awesome enough to save this album from being a 2.5, but it is a huge standout in a sea of average.
