This isn't boring in the slightest
What is boring, to me however, is the genre of modern rock nowadays :/
This doesn't slot right in with that genre which is what I enjoy about it but some of their last albums sadly do

I thought this was a huge step forward lyrically and instrumentally. It's like everything they should have done before the last couple albums. Not that the past couple albums don't have redeeming qualities, but this is much more creative and interesting.

Tbf only Brooklyn Bridge and Bad Decisions are mid tempo plus. People generally equate boring with slow songs, of which there are plenty here.
If people think slow songs are boring, then let's get rid of half of all music I guess. haha.

This isn't boring at all, nothing revolutionary, but like an excellent listen

Tried this this morning. It was good but there wasn’t anything that super impressed me tbh. I found myself wishing a lot of the songs were shorter - The Strokes were always best at their punchiest.

"Based on your 5s and 4.5s why did you think you'd like this"
Because I like to broaden my horizons . Also my 5's and 4,5's give a very incomplete picture of the music I listen to and like. Is this their best get-in point though?

Start at the beginning with The Strokes and go from there. That's why people like this release. It's because of context.

That's stupid. People should like it because it's good, not because it's better than what came before

yeah, but tbf I think most reasoning behind people adoring this album is pretty stupid
guys this is their best since room on fire!! *proceeds to 4.5 it*

By the same token, context is not irrelevant

Of course it's not irrelevant, I just wish people would stop rating things entirely based on what they think a band should sound like
|
| |
One thing that always intrigued me about this band is that they give off the vibe they don't give a fuck about anything or each other lol

I’m loving the album cause it’s fun and catchy. Lyrics are great and as a strokes head there’s plenty of good stuff to bring me back.
If you’re not a strokes head, chances are this won’t blow you away and it’ll be a good listen

Let me make myself clear. I am a strokes fan, but I enjoy this album for what it is individually, as well as what it means for the band as a whole. When I said "enjoyment by context," I'm saying that if you are someone new to the band, it's important to see how far they've come, and where they have grown. That can give you a greater or deeper since of appreciation. Just because this quite literally is the best release since "Room on Fire" doesn't mean I just decided to give it a good rating. It's because I enjoy it, and it feels like the album they should have made all along. But this is just my honest opinion. Hope this clears up some of the confrontation of this recent discussion.
