i'll probably give Voids a go soon, the reworks on this album have made me really curious about the original versions of those tracks (alongside the other material).

I wish this whole album was as good as Science Beat. Might grow on me more, I initially found The Unnatural World to be a disappointment but it grew on me to the point where I hold it with nearly the same amount of esteem as Deathconsciousness. The live drums keep throwing me off though. I think HANL needs a drum machine to capture the same feeling as their other stuff.

Would that alternate Sisyphus go before or after Lords of Tresserhorn in the tracklisting? I think it definitely belongs after Everything We Forget. Dracula Bells kind of has already taken its slot in Side A.

I'm gonna guess before "Lords of Tresserhorn" since the original demo version for "Lords of Tresserhorn" dates back to around November 2015 or around that.

This "alternate" (demo?) version of Sisyphus probably dates back to around 2006 or so, since it's a slightly different version of the existing recording on Voids. It originally popped up on a fan-made compilation back in 2014. https://rateyourmusic.com/release/unauth/have-a-nice-life/anno-domini-collected-demos-2006-2014/

“Lords of Tresserhorn” is basically just a condensed version of “Earthmover” right?

Not really. It's supposed to be a sequel of sorts to Cropsey...that is according to Dan Barrett.

Quite surprised at the amount of negativity this album is getting. They're never going to be able to top Deathconciousness or anything from Voids, but they at least start to get out of their comfort zone while still maintaining that HANL sound with this album. Also, if nightmarish fever dreams had a soundtrack behind them, I feel like this would be THAT album.

Sounds too tame for that.

Everything We Forget is an unremarkable Treefingers ripoff and the vocals are too buried in Destinos. Even with that recognized, this record is solid.

The hate for this is a shame, but I can understand being disappointed. How could they ever possibly top Deathcon or even The Unnatural World? This album is good for what it is.

Eh, I see a bit of both sides. I do think some fans are overreacting, but at the same time this definitely has bit of a feel of being forced. I kind of wish they had stuck with the full band sound of the first half all the way through instead of having it both ways with the side a/side b thing.

I feel like they wanted to mesh both sides of their sound. The depressed surfer rock jams, alongside the ominous, droning, post rock ambient tracks. You might be right in saying that is a bit forced, because it destroys the idea that this album is a start to finish, cohesive journey, so to speak. Deathcon and The Unnatural World had a strict narrative, which they stayed true to for the entire duration of the album. This album, however, doesn't have a central theme and is sort of a hodge podge of ideas thrown all over the place.

this review is extremely wordy and awkward to read. i agree with the rating and what its getting at but damn is that first paragraph pointlessly inflated and a stumbling mess of verbiage that says a sentence worth of an idea

Yeah I'm kinda with Space esp on that first para, I guess it's a stylistic choice but it's not one that makes me want to keep reading the review and kinda makes me feel like the writer is a pretentious hack (of course you aren't actually that Wines that's just how it reads/would read if I didn't know who the writer is).

Reminds me of Adorno’s writing a little bit. Flamboyant and gratuitous and I love it *mwaeh*
