Much as I've been complaining about this being underwhelming it is growing on me a fair bit, it deserves a 3.5.

feeling that, inbetween 3.5 and 4.0, the two singles realllly drag it down for my tastes

Agreed, I think my favorite tracks are the last two.

Singles seem really divisive, Sapphire is one of my favorite tracks.

My ranking is something like this: “Protection” > “Spiritual Instinct” > “Les jardins de minuit” > “L’Ile des Morts” > “Sapphire” > “Le miroir”

Le Miroir is defs one of the weaker tracks imo

"Le miroir" doesn't build into anything particularly interesting imo, it's a 5 minute warmup for the closer.

I wish Le Miroir built to something more but it's still the most beautiful song on here to me.

It's just so pretty. I think it works wonderfully as a slow burner track, but I understand where you guys are coming from. Personally, the album excels at the more quiet, subdued melodic moments imo.

Yeah it's pretty, but that's pretty much an expectation for any Alcest song; it has to do more than that to impress me.

I get you, Neige definitely knows how to paint a portrait with all of his music, but something about those dissonant guitars in Le miroir gets me feeling like I'm lost in a valley of mountains thousands of feet above sea level.

Singles are solid and fit nicely in here. I also appreciate Neige pushing his voice on a couple of the songs (highest clean singing to date I believe), although he probably won't do it himself during shows.

"Protection" is my favorite here mostly because it's probably the heaviest thing put out under the Alcest name to date and as such it's the only thing here that doesn't on some level feel like a rewrite of past Alcest stuff. Plus that crescendo in the middle section is definitely the most awesome moment here. "Sapphire" on the other hand just sounds like a mashup of a few different songs from Kodama ("Oiseaux de proie" especially). Not to say it's bad but it's hard to get excited about it. "L'Ile des Morts" kind of has the same problem but is at least a bit more interesting from a songwriting perspective.

Sapphire doesn't come off as a mashup from the previous album's songs to me at all but oh well. Wasn't too sure about its straighforwardness at first but I quickly warmed up to it. Quite driving and at the same time relaxing song.

Same here, just gave it a gool ol' rate bump. Top 3 Alcest for me, along with Kodama and Ecailles (although Voyages comes close).

Right now my ranking would be: L'ile des morts > T/T > Les Jardins de Minuit > Le Miroir > Protection > Sapphire

Scheumke I can totally get behind that ranking. The only thing I would change is perhaps swap Jardins and Miroir.
