Yeah, this is probably the best new 'old-school' bm release I've heard in the past few years
Should bump my rating really
|
| |
I still have yet to check this but really should. Idk if I'm in the minority or not here but I think Esoteric Warfare is my second favorite album from them. Plenty of real interesting moments on that one imo

I'm pissed at myself for not hearing this yet. Will do within the next few days.

Yeah this is about as good as can be expected of a band rehashing their glory days
|
| |
i wish theyd go back to the experimental days of ordo ad chao. wall of water is absolutely the best mayhem tune.
without blasphemer i doubt they can replicate that sound tho.

Oh I'm all for them going back to their more experimental prog bm approach. This was a cool one off though (I'm assuming that's the case)

I like Eso Warfare the least, so I'd rather they stick to their 1st wave bm sound
|
| |
based and chadpilled hype, never lets me down
|
| |
Don't dig this one as much as EW but have heard it all of one time
All Mayhem LPs are good tho
And good to know the knew one's joining a nice lil tradition of EPs that are as decent as they are useless

Esoteric warfare was ok but I like ordo ad chao a lot. I'd put it up pretty close to DMDS personally
|
| |
Sargeist got a riff or two
Ordo ad Chao is like the pinnacle of gotta-be-in-the-mood black metal
But when the moods hits its all there is

I just don't know why people seem to generally enjoy esoteric warfare more. It's pretty much a safer, less interesting version of ordo ad chao

I don't get the comparison tbh
|
| |
Yeah, Ordo is a lot more out there than Esoteric, they really reigned it in for the last couple
Some of that might be the production tho
|
| |
the production is one of my favorite parts of Ordo. it absolutely does not lend itself well to listening on earbuds through spotify though. but if you crank it up on some quality cans or a hifi system it really sings.
its like lo-fi and hi-fi at the same time, completely suffocating.
