Royal Beggars is probably one of my least favorites on here.
Seventh Circle, Doomsday, and A Wasted Hymn >

unfathomably incorrect opinion

Well, A Wasted Hymn would've been even better if they cut off the last hook.

Seventh Circle is the only true good song on the album. But even then, it sounds like a cheap imitation of Gojira and Converge.

Doomsday is the only one with less than 3 repeats of the hook so
|

What is it with you and hook hating? Pale Waves is just hook to hook to hook and it's fucking amazing because if hooks are done right the whole thing remains catchy and fun.
|
| |
Doesn't apply here though cause these hooks is weak af.

Sam’s vox are good but kind of annoying compared to how they used to be

I don't get why he refuses to utilize his lows

Yeah his scream gets irritating at times.
|
| |
He doesn't even do legit cleans like in TH&N or Hollow Crown anymore either.
|
| |
Why do you all have this at a 3.5?
Is this what Stockholm syndrome looks like?

I've been considering dropping to a 3 because I still like it, but it's definitely disappointing

I feel like this band has always been a 3-3.5 hence me going with a 3.5

@Ghost: I don't hate hooks lol. I'm just tiring out of the standard 3+ hook repeat structure a bit more than anything. At least with more "progressive" acts like this band purports to be. Also, be the change you want to see in the thread ;-)

Hollow Crown is an admittedly awesome record. But everything after that has either been outright trash ('The Here and Now', 'Daybreaker') to completely average, which is their last three albums.
'Holy Hell' is probably the most disappointing music release of 2018, though. The circumstances surrounding the album, as well as what I was hoping we'd get out of Josh Middleton, just turned out to be lazy, predictable, and a lot of time, derivative.
This band already punched their ticket. They're just worried about headlining massive venues at this point.

I always hope the next Architects album will be that special one, but they're all just 3.5s lol.
Also Carter's classic scream/clean thing gets tedious across full albums, especially noticing them here though they're good in isolation.

Compared to LF/TG and even the last album this feels very boring.
It seems like they are going for a rather mainstream oriented, simplified sound.
This development reminds me of bands like Parkway Drive and BMTH. They also cut off their originally rather complex instrumentation in order to be able to play larger venues.
Also the vocal melodies are so boring and predictably monotonous.
This is so average...
