gonna pick this movie up when it drops, because seeing it once in theaters leaves me with a lot of questions. Also still wanna watch Argento's Inferno. Main songs on this soundtrack are killer

'she was the most empathetic witch who sensed who Susie was and understood what was coming so the suicide was voluntary. at least that's my read'

that's what I thought too

Yeah, I got the sense that she realized she was on a sinking ship and wanted to die quickly rather than suffer a horrible fate like the other girls who didn't tow the line.

Ok but if she had some kind of precognition or just intuition why would suicide be the answer? Unless you merely mean that she just didnt want anything to do with what they were going to do to susie - which is unlikely as she had already been doing it with the other attempts. But if she knew that all the fake markos shippers were going to die why would she not just ship blanco

I think it's safe to write off that she had any sort of knowledge of what was going to happen aside from what they were going to try to do to susie, but that still doesnt really explain why she would have gone along with this for however many other times they attempted it

Actually you know what, that kind of a visceral, abrupt, and violent suicide could only be the result of some seriously pent up emotions. If I refer back to the theme of greif perhaps it does make sense, if she was the most empathetic witch to the victims of the coven and she finally cracked after being nearly catatonic with guilt I think that makes sense. I'll watch for it that way my second run through

The first time we see her, when Blanc and Susie notice her, she runs away but what if she's scared of Susie not Blanc? That would suggest she has some kind of knowledge or premonition but I'm just speculating. We'll probably never know the deal with her character.

Finally watched Inferno. What a colossal disappointment.

^shocking response!

I liked Inferno about as much as I liked Suspiria honestly. And since my favourite thing about those movies in general is the set pieces, I'd dare to say I prefer some of said sets to Suspiria. The underwater scene and the depths of the academy in particular.

OG Suspiria has some meh moments, but Inferno is straight up trash, man. The underwater scene is the only thing worth watching from that movie.

I think the fact that I pretty much solely enjoy the aesthetic elements of Dario films sets my expectations for the story telling and direction pretty low/secondary. Which is why I hate mother of tears cuz it doesnt even have the looks

Inferno had none of the style of Suspiria and the tone is ridiculously all over the place. Some scenes like the lengthy and pointless cab scene are a chore to sit through and the kills are laughable. The cat scene and the rat scene had me all but tuning out. Granted, I didn't like Suspiria on first watch either and now it's one of my favourite films ever so maybe this one will grow on me, but on initial viewing I honestly hated it. The water scene was awesome but the film dropped off fast after that. While the acting in Suspiria felt off and unnatural, the acting in this is just baaaaad. Still gonna watch Mother Of Tears next, wish me luck.

Also full of lengthy and pointless scenes and it has the awful dog scene to meet the animal quota

Suspiria did an excellent job of balancing horror with humour though. Like when Olga's face is pushing into the glass it's quite funny, but by the time she's getting hanged from the roof it's unsettling again. Same with Sarah, when she's hiding in that room with the killer at the door its so tense, but then the music cuts out and the killer continues to fiddle ineffectually with the lock while she just escapes. But then she gets caught in those wires and killed and it's really fucked up again. And I genuinely think living dead Sarah with the needles through her eyes coming at Suzie with a knife is one of the most startling images in recent memory. I'll concede that while I love the dog kill conceptually, it is the most unconvincing death and makes me wonder why Argento doubled down on the animal deaths in Inferno. Those are easily his hokiest stunts and not remotely scary.
