I'll try listening from track 6 on...I don't know why I feel I have to try and do this album justice.

It really is 'Utopia' all over again, cold winter months, trying to get into a sprawling pixieland mush of an album, feeling I can't dismiss it out of hand as it's AOTY list season...bahhhhhhh

Sput problems

I keep going back and forth on this but I think it’s growing on me, as Doof says she satisfies her most avant-grade tendencies in the first 5 tracks and after that it’s peetty smooth sailing (and I am even warming to those first 5 too - “Whether” is one of my favorites on the album but it seems to be getting overlooked, would have liked some more short-form, upbeat songs like that). Last 5 tracks in particular are pretty great.

Some of this is just glaringly bad Idk. She's an incredible artist and even when I'm not digging her style, I can respect the bold experimentation. I find a lot of this grating and downright dull though. Gonna listen a couple more times before rating, but first impressions aren't exactly beaming.

This is mystifying in all the right ways, especially tracks like Chaitius - - what a unique intersection of so many disparate elements. Loving it

I’ve given up attempting to understand this, if anything since the mystique has all but dissipated the beauty has evaporated & I’m just left with the nonsense. The 2nd half still isn’t bad, just not sure I can persevere any more when the potential rewards seem to be diminishing fast.

best advice for people who still tryna 'get' this album and feel frustrated:

It's best if you just let go. take in the sounds with all your senses, if that makes any sense.

if it doesn't, then do more drugs lol.

I would say, split the album in two sessions and treat them as separate albums. It's too much to take in 1 shot.

I created a playlist of my 10 favorites then I treat the other 6 as a b-sides album. Of course, I can still enjoy the entire thing front to end if I have the time (which is never).

Problem I have is the new Thom Yorke soundtrack is just as unwieldy as this thing but I find it real easy to listen to - maybe sometimes trimming the last 15-20 minutes. So I think I’m ok with long experimental albums, this album just starts with a 5 track long fairy fart in my face 💨
