you mean me for k-pop? It's not an exception it's just a low expectation that has never been proven wrong, and it is a problem in the music that the lyrics are never good

the english is usually just meaningless nonsense buzzwords that pop out in a memorable catchy way though, like suddenly in the chorus they'll sing 'diamond heart my love' or something and then back to more unrelated lyrics. it's effective but I wouldn't call it good, or certainly not thought provoking even for pop.

agreed with plane about context though, some lyrics don't work outside of the context of the music and look stupid on their own.

"What with this meme of 'lyrics don't matter' that's so prevalent these day. lyrics matter to me a lot and can make or break an album like any other element, even in metal where you can't understand them immediately. "

It's called an opinion not a meme

Objectively it isn't a 1

"meme opinion then "

Why ask a question if you're just going to be dismissive once an answer is given?

Spiderman of the Rings is a fav, I have it on vinyl, but I see them as quite different. on paper I guess you could say that there are lots of similarities, but the vibe of Spiderman is silly ridiculous childish music with whimsy and this seems very vain and mechanical in a different way. interesting point though. it's really the modern feel that turns me away more than anything

Childish Gambino brings the 1's hard for me it's ok con you are still a good user tho

don't take it too seriously platnum I'm just being silly, but I do suspect that it really is a bit of a meme in a way. I hear people say that lyrics don't matter and the more often I hear it, the more I see people begin to oblige and agree, maybe that's just the direction music is taking now idk

tyler I hope u are kidding because anal cunt has the best lyrics obvs

I wasn't taking it all that serious it often just feels when someone calls something a meme the intent is to invalidate someone else's thoughts or feelings. Tbh I think people who value lyrics are still in the majority not just on this site but everywhere basically. What it comes down to is preference really, everyone has their own, it's that simple for me.

I see what you're saying but no i didn't mean that, memes are serious business lol they are at the forefront of how modern ideas are spread to the masses. you're prob right but i think it also depends on genre, some genres place less emphasis on the importance of the lyrics. like I said with k-pop, I think most k-pop fans are fans of the members and performers first and a song won't be ruined for them if the lyrics are bad because that's not what they're there for

" I see what you're saying but no i didn't mean that, memes are serious business lol they are at the forefront of how modern ideas are spread to the masses."

I see, fair point

"You're prob right but i think it also depends on genre, some genres place less emphasis on the importance of the lyrics."

This is also true. I see your point with kpop also, you give it pass as an exception to the rule but hold other genres to different standards in terms of lyrical content.

At one point in my life lyrics were the most important aspect of music to me but I feel that line of thinking had me missing out on a lot of great music with more vapid lyrics. These days it's just hard for me to make emotional connections with lyrics, I often see them as trying too hard to be poetic or philosophical. I would much rather music appeal to my emotions through sound alone and not as much through words or text, to me it feels much more genuine. Hopefully that gives some kind of insight into the thought process but I'm sure I don't speak for everyone with a similar opinion.
