It's over produced, mediocre, passionless, boring and otherwise dated. Shinedown tried to experiment with modern concepts but instead ended up sounding like dad rock trying to fit in with the cool bands. I found the album unbearable because the bad mixing and lyrics had me to the point of shutting off halfway through. I know it's harsh to some listeners, and I somewhat understand where the appeal lies, but I can't get behind "Attention Attention" at all. Shinedown wasn't known to be a profound band. One has to expect a certain level of quality from them. This to me was their rock bottom.

I mean of all those things you describe I just don't really agree with, mostly about the production. It really isn't bad, I wish some parts had a little extra oomph to them but overall its solid. Lyrics have never been their strong suit except for a few exceptions and this is no different. They're a mainstream rock band and for that style they do it great, I just don't see personally how it's worse than just average.

That's perfectly fine. It's just not my jam. I don't think being a "mainstream rock band" excuses certain qualities. They were never a profound act but I expect a little more quality from the group since they're striving to be taken seriously. I feel this album doesn't reflect maturity well as it sounds very messy and random.

Huh...your reaction to this is similar to my reaction to Threat to Survival these days.

Threat to Survival is quite similar to Attention. The only difference is that Attention is slightly heavier.

Honestly the biggest issue with TTS is the production.

Album Rating: 1.5
TTS and Attention suffer from bad production. They're produced like pop albums not rock albums.

The production here, at least to me, is miles better than that of Threat to Survival. On most of that album, the guitar was barely audible. "Cut the Cord" being an obvious exception. Lyrically, this album seems fine to me, it's mostly about personal emotions so I can see why some would be turned off though.

"Personal emotions" are what every album is about. Their albums generally follow some sort of self-help. Shinedown is struggling to modernize which is why they toy with these style of sounds. They can't find a good one to stick with.

as much as I enjoy this, they should go back to Leave a Whisper and Us and Them era style

Eh, that won't do anything for them. No one cares for that style anymore. There's a reason it died in 2008.

Oh nice.
Will be watching them on December even tho this album didn't really do much for me... Still hoping for a good concert

I don't know how these guys manage to stay consistent for a decade already, well apart from the obvious continued stratospheric vocal performance level. But this album is guess what? Also great, that's right. Darkside and Creatures are 11/10 songs.

Seeing them today, thought they would be much worse. They got some enjoyable songs but I only caught the anti-hype around Threat to Survival haha
