You gave me the itch to revisit this, toon. My feelings remain undeterred, but one thing's for sure: "The Dark Of You" is still an absolute banger.

Been going through their records for the first time myself. Pretty much one big meh though "Diary of Jane" is a killer.

Good sounding butt rock is all I'd say about this band

Good at what they do but yeah they've been doing the same thing since record one.

yeah I'll admit that's pretty much true about these guys for the most part, but for me as long as they're good at what they do, I don't mind one-trick ponies for the most part.

I personally hate bands like this, not cause of the quality of the music, it's fine. But how the fuck can you not wish to expand and evolve, how are you satisfied with the outcome of your music when you're literally been doing the same shit for ~20 years? I just don't get it. Either they lost all touch with the world outside, they're ignorant, greedy, or just a bunch of pussies.

That spiraling guitar in the second part of Torn in Two's chorus is cool but it's so buried it's almost inaudible. I wouldn't be surprised if some people didn't even notice it was there.

I mean he's not wrong, but that being said it's not an excuse for the music to be bad

I think the music is pretty lame, personally. They started with a sound that was never interesting to begin with and they've never once thought to deviate or be more ambitious.

This does sound like their attempt at being a bit more technical but as someone said Ben is taking baby steps as always. Also it would help if the production didn't hide stuff like what I mentioned in the last comment.

Yeah the production on these last two records has sucked. Far too muddy

probably the weakest thing about both albums for me. they need someone like Nick Raskulinecz

Yeah it's... not good, simply. It really hinders the album. Blood past the two minute mark is the same story as Torn in Two, everything's buried in a swamp. Kick drum: the album.

blood is still one of the best tracks here though

Nick Raskulinecz on a Breaking Benjamin album would be absolutely legendary
|

Raskulinecz did some bad/unfitting production to Mastodon and Rise Against. Trivium's Shogun was sweet though. Don't get people would want him doing BB
|
| |
He also did some Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan if I’m not mistaken
