I can't fault this for not being a country album when the elements with which M ostensibly "replaces" country signifiers are so pleasant to me

I don’t know what his argument is.

My argument is the song writing and singing are both LOW STANDARD

I mean this certainly on the far limits of pop country but it’s got more country to it than most of what’s on country radio these days. The songwriting is basically pure pop, instrumentals are country inflected enough to still fall under the country banner.

BUT to say that only people who don’t like country are enjoying this is (as Fantano said or at least heavily implied) is flat-out false.

I think my argument is I’m less surprised someone who has reasonably adventurous taste like Fantano (yeah) doesn’t like this much than this album being universally loved here.

Not that there’s anything wrong with this being liked by anyone of course, it’s just a very standard pop album with VERY standard lyrics

I’m almost willing to accept that argument but idk, what albums does this sound like to you? And even lyrically idk to me it’s pretty direct in a way that’s rare. Like “oh what a world” is not your standard lyrical fare lol

Wonder Woman? Velvet Elvis? Gimme some Space...Cowboy? It’s pre tame stuff

People mentioning names like Norah Jones, Dido and Carly George Jetson says it all, album is fluff- ok fluff but it’s fluff, and there’s a lot of fluff out there

Just sounds like a 2018 Pop album that’s ‘a little bit country’ to me

Seeing as I was the first person to review Golden Hour on Sputnik, I’d like to take this time to give myself 100% credit for this Grammy. (:

I was rooting for it to get the Grammy, though would also have been happy if Brandi Carlile got it.
