On a second listen, I really enjoy this album, but I prefer Grievances. It's more varied and the riffs are more memorable. I also prefer the ratio of cleans vs. harsh vocals. It's a mystery how no one on here has reviewed it.

I do have to say one thing though: For people astounded by my enjoyment of this, the reality is that without the post-rock/dream pop elements I would almost definitely hate it, but those elements are deftly enough interwoven with the aggressive parts that it all works. So don’t be expecting me to go out and start giving high scores to other hardcore/metalcore/mathcore/whatever core this band is supposed to be.

How is the new YLT? I’ve still only heard one album in their back catalogue but I’m looking forward to the new one.

Never been a big fan but the new one is very solid dreamy indie rock. Quite an effortless endeavor for them at this point.

A Flood of Light is stunning, clear standout for me.

@Boney: your comment about the non-core elements shows why you can’t call this JUST a core record. Take note Lucid.

it's also dreampop-core. still a -core album

"A Flood of Light" is one of the best on this album, no question.

Album is okay, not seeing the hype though. Other than some keyboards here and there this sounds like pretty much any other post-rocky post-hardcore/metalcore album. This is hardly a game changer. Amia Venera Landscape were doing this in a way more interesting fashion in 2010.

It’s not what they’re doing, it’s how they’re doing it. Everything is so tastefully done & flows surprisingly well. The album is an all-encompassing piece of well thought out ideas working as one, not just a selection of decent songs.
