The wrong vocalist can ruin an otherwise great album *cough* Charlie Dominici *cough*.
Billy Corgan once said that the great thing about Van Halen was that even though they were the cool rockstars that everyone wanted to be like, their vibe was that everyone was invited to the party, and not just the cool kids. To me that's mainly because of DLR. He dry humped the line between being a rockstar cliche and poking fun at rockstar cliches. And with Michael Anthony and Eddie doing better than average backing vocals and carrying the melodies DLR never really had to be a great singer.
