I think Brandon Ellis really fleshes out their sound with his fast melodic run leads. Ryan Knight is an excellent lead player, but his style was a bit too out there for TBDM's sound in my opinion. He'd fit better in a more progressive metal band.

I was watching some more Ellis guitar vids to get a sense of his playing style and wow the kid is amazing. His vibrato holy fuck.

"The Black Dahlia Murder is an American melodic death metal band..."
What the fuck?
Guys, I came here to ask if they were worth seeing. I assumed they were grindcore. Or deathcore. Some chug-core. I've been aware of them for many years but never game them a single thought.
They're playing in my city on the 28th with Suffocation. I came here to ask your guys' honest opinion if they were worth seeing if I wasn't into that genre.
MELODEATH?
Just answered my own question.
But also, they any good live?

@Nomos - I saw them with Gorguts and they fucking killed it. SEE THEM LIVE YOU DWEEB! YOU WON'T, YOU'RE SCARED
But really, do it

Sick! Looks like their supporting acts for me are Suffocation, Decrepit Birth, Necrot, and Worm Witch.
I'm just not a fan of live metal that's indecipherable because of how heavy, busy, and guttural it is. I assumed they'd be in that category. I'm glad I'm wrong! Gonna buy tickets tonight!

maybe the venues you go to suck? I don't have this problem.
As for TBDM they're awesome live. I think Suffocation is a bit better live, at least when they have Frank there, but Derek Boyer's bass play is a sight to behold.

Is Edmonton within a three minute walk of my place in NY?

Also I agree with Wretched, I've been going to metal shows for almost two decades now and I have very rarely had that problem. It's usually only if the sound sucks in the venue or something. One time I saw Neurosis in this shit venue and I thought I was going to go deaf.

yeah i had to see Neurosis in a shitty venue as well. i knew it was a bad venue but i had never seen them live and i wasnt going to pass up the opportunity just because of that. had to go by myself too, nobody i know is into this band. it was fuckin worth it though.

Aha back in college not a single friend of mine was into metal so I always ended up going to shows alone when they would tour around my college town. All my friends back home were into the same stuff as me, though - thank God.

Well thankfully the venue they're playing at has great sound, been to dozens of shows there. I agree, it' must be the venues most of the time.
