Yeah everyone loves sprawl 2. It's an amazing summer song

Problem with Sprawl II is it's clearly what spawned the direction they've gone since, Reflektor and this don't quite sound like that but it was the first hint that they would go in a synth-based direction.

I mean the synth based direction could have been amazing
But their execution is terrible
|
| |
I wouldn't say it clearly spawned this
|

true. i would say it clearly sprawled this

Tbh a lot of the instrumentals are great on this

This really bores me. This new direction of theirs. A lot of the songs don't have a real groove. It's just repetitive. There's a difference.

t/t and Creature Comfort rule... and that's about it

agreed except with We Don't Deserve Love and Creature Comfort. rest of this is pretty much what I expected from Arcade Fire who are, in fact, bad
|

Everything here rules except for Chemistry (which just plain sucks) and the two Infinite Content tracks (which sound nice but are irritatingly repetitive). Otherwise, this is big, infectious, beautiful Arcade Fire just as they've been since the beginning.

Man, some seriously cringeworthy lyrics so far. But the title track could be a jam, we'll see.

Definitely a good album. Hard to argue it's at the top of their discography or really better. The lyrics don't sell me on some songs, and I don't really pay attention to lyrics all the time, but Arcade Fire has been one of the greats at lyricism. Funeral still seems so important that it's referenced twice on this album.

Referenced in the most self-indulgent and obnoxious way. A fan almost attempted suicide before Funeral saved him!

My early verdict is this is good, but bad by AF standards.

"Funeral still seems so important that it's referenced twice on this album."
Honestly, that really bugged me. Self-reference just doesn't fit with their style at all.
