I'm not referring to rating, I'm alluding to the fact that many consider this band groundbreaking and experimental and I think they're pure rubbish.

idk honestly I'd like to think they have since An Awesome Wave but there's definitely been an influx of more electronic based indie bands since their popularity.

There's zero evidence or even remotely a link between that coincidence, plus An awesome Wave came out in 2012, bands like Passion Pit and MGMT were already deep into their careers at that point, if anything MGMT's mainstream debut Oracular Spectacular was the fuse that set off the explosion in Indie Electronic based music, or at least it's popularity. Hell even bands like Foster the People, Portugal. The Man and Tame Impala were already well on the scene before Alt-J. If anything Alt-J are a product of everything listed above.

yeah I have no evidence but citing bands like Tame/Foster/Portugal doesnt make sense since they are a whole different breed of indie IMO. MGMT and M83 def popularized indietronica that's for sure but Alt-J kinda took it to a different level with An Amazing Wave. I don't really know what I'm trying to get at but they made the weird mainstream. all the bands you cited are pretty standard indie (except Portugal but they are much more psych/alt rock influenced)

I'll give you that they're weird and have their niche in the Indie scene, I just don't see them as really having any measured effect on shifting anything.

Please cite some of the bands influenced by Alt-J? This band won't have any legacy when it comes to the '10s indie scene.

glass animals could conceivably be influenced by this band, I kinda agree with what Con's saying, Awesome Wave got heavy praise in the indie scene when it came out
