I'm not a fan of the term "selling out", but I can see why people would use that to describe this album. Their last album didn't sell as well as LP would've hoped, and then now their new album has a very safe radio-friendly sound in comparison. But who knows, maybe even if THP was their best selling record they'd still go this route.

"Is selling out even really a thing anymore? When was the last time a band majorly changed their sound to what they thought the public wanted and was actually rewarded for it with more sales? "
In Flames
Also like I said, Soilwork. Stabbing the Drama was their most radio-friendly album and even though they've returned to playing heavier and more nuanced music, "Stabbing the Drama" is still their most listened song on last.fm and many folks say it's their favorite album by the band. Because more folks listen to like, hard rock than death metal.

Bring me the Horizon went [more] mainstream and got some "hit" singles, too.

They sound a fuck ton better than what LP and IF are doing, that's for sure

How is this selling out when its so obvious that this is the music these lames wanna make? Its not selling out, its a style change that nobody wants to admit was inevitable.

I feel sorry for everyone that was surprised by how crappy this record is. I think it just shows without filters what Linkin Park is and always has been: a commercial music band.

I agree that maybe this album is getting more full-on hate than it deserves but a 3.7 is going way too far. I'd rate it a 2 or 2.5 at very best. It's mostly passable radio pop, some enjoyable moments the rest is listenable at best. I see it a kinda waste of time criticising the lyrics because it's truly been the band's weakest suit since their first album. I don't think anybody listens to Linkin Park for super solid lyrics haha.

Hybrid Theory did have decent lyrics tho, or in Papercut's case very solid. Other than that bleh

i genuinely doubt this is as bad as their first album. you guys are just old enough to know better now.

Because I highly doubt a bunch of 40 year old men suddenly "want" to write pop songs.

Not as bad as some are saying IMO, but not even close to good. Almost like a boy band, but often sounding out of place.

Yeah, Soilwork did have a radio-friendly phase but even then their music was enjoyable, In Flames is definitely a better example of an extreme downfall. I even joked once that "their lyrics have outlinkinparked linkin park"
