@Dream: In terms of free healthcare, I'm for basic services being given for generic injuries (broken bones, fractures, sprains, cuts, standard infections, etc) but not for more serious conditions that require advanced, specialized treatment / surgeries, for the reason that it would inflate costs will beyond a point of necessity. (Example: Obamacare basically made it so that a hospital near where I live has to pay 80 dollars for a pack of 50 plastic cups... when that would cost something along the lines of 5-10 dollars anywhere else)

I think snide made some well rounded points. The problem with free healthcare is that how do you begin to pay the staff (doctors and such) who had to do a fuck ton of work to get to their positions? It's well paid because it's such a dangerous job, or at least high-end surgery is dangerous. The costs are bullshit and their shouldn't be a cost to saving/helping a human life but there needs to be a healthy negotiation.

There needs to be healthy negotiation indeed but the bi-partisan model and division of both sides is not going to allow for such thing.

@King: It's the reason why I said basic medical aid should be free, not advanced. Nothing beyond broken bones, fractures, cuts, basic infections, etc. These types of doctors for this kind of scenario wouldn't require as much training, aka wouldn't require as much strain / pay, and the burden eased from the taxpayer would be much appreciated. Advanced hospitals wouldn't even be remotely attached to the government bar the previously mentioned tax subsidies provided they do the appropriate research / advancements.

And the reasons that I bring up free college-level education and healthcare even though I ID myself as much more economically conservative is that before my home country's socialist phase started, Venezuela was a successful capitalist self-sustaining country that offered both free education and healthcare.

From what I understand, both Brazil and Venezuela are in an absolute shitstorm right now. When I read about Xbox One import costs to Brazil being something along the lines of 1,900 USD, I wondered how the fuck people are even eating in that country.

Also I get you Snide but people birthed into poorer families that are both 1. More prone to diseases and 2. do not have the money to pay for the sufficient medical attention for any disease just have to end up getting fucked over?

Not to sound racist (I guess?) or anything but i'm surprised Venezuela is so well off (or was) considering how countries like Colombia and the larger portion of South/Central America are doing pretty poor as far as I can tell.

They're not, in Venezuela at least. Literally everyone is suffering from some degree of malnourishment, statistically everyone has lost weight, often times when I visit, shelves are empty day to day; kinda like Walmart after Black Friday but every day.

Christ man. I mean it's good that you don't live there anymore but watching your home country fall apart probably doesn't feel too great.
