in that case, what is it about this that gives you the "high school poetry assignment" vibe?

His reasoning seems shallow from what I saw. He dislikes the confessional fashion of the lyrics, the straight-forwardness. I guess he also thinks they're trying too hard to tug on one's heartstrings, too try-hard or something.

Like I don't know how much of a brick you have to be to not understand the inherent weight or reality of death: Yes, this album reads like a diary, the fuck you want it to read like?

I think his biggest point, or the point i've seen him bring up the most, is the
"this is sad, my wife died, BUY MY ALBUM!!!" point. He seems to hint a lot that the dude's just cashing in on tragedy. I haven't heard the album so i can't really give a perspective tho.

It's a knee jerk fair point / reaction but the situation cannot be dumbed down to that statement.

I mean the dude streamed the album for free, you don't have to buy it. Obviously he'd still like you to buy it but at the end of the day he just wanted to put it out there

Idk why you guys are analyzing sachs opinion on this. He 1's everything he doesnt like and shits on it to get a rise out of people.

you say that as though i haven't seen death. of course that shit's real, but instead of being some kind of stuck in the past sad-fuck i've learnt to move on from that shit. say your goodbyes, let go, move on. fuck, use their death as motivation even but for fucks sake, dwelling on it is just fucking pathetic.
if you're never gonna let it go, why not just end the pain and join them??
getting to the heart of your point though
my criticisms:
this album relies almost entirely on the effectuality of the contextual tie
the contextual tie is not very relatable unless you draw some kind of exxxtra contrived comparative to your own life
it somehow comes across as "forced yet genuine". it feels like mr. eerie knew this shit was unnecessary but nutted it out anyways.
and musically it's quite a sloppy much of a muchness type affair
it's ineffectual, boring, tired... but perhaps most sadly propped up by the "powerful" themes
it's a waste
