I guess that's cool to say even though everything they did two decades ago is better.

Wouldn't say everything but Deliver Us will always be my favorite.

Darkest Hour taking me back to my school days...ah good times.

Anyway, this album is awesome.

"The Flesh & The Flowers of Death" has to be my favorite - the intro just feels so right.

Yeah this is great. It's like the heavy follow up to Hidden Hands that my teenage self wanted so badly in 2005. It's better than Hidden Hands overall though, even though none of the songs are as good as the title track from that album.

I would put this 3rd, well behind Deliver Us and Undoing Ruin.
Hidden Hands, THR, and TER come in as a cluster behind those three as albums with great standouts but lacking consistency.

I think Hidden Hands is great in terms of consistency but the tracks are a bit samey in style and tone - but they're all awesome. I love the fury of the whole album. John is at his best when he is yelling about politics he is pissed off about.

The Eternal Return's first half is great, but then tracks start becoming bland and blending together with what came previously. But I do love some of the songs on the last half too.

I agree that The Human Romance lacks consistency. Some tracks are a bit dull.

I feel like I would enjoy TER so much more if it sounded better. I still think it's their best post Deliver Us album, aside from this of course. But yeah, the production is so very unappealing.

Some really great songs on that album though.

idk, I'm sure it appeals to those who love their first two albums. But seriously, just imagine if TER had the production sound of this record.

That being said, The Tide and No God are fantastic songs.

so does this, practically every single song nails it in the fucking head.

I keep getting This Is The Truth and The Flesh & The Flowers stuck in my head. This really is some of the best material that the band has come up with.

Man if only all their albums had this production

I don't think this production would fit a lot of their material. The heavy stuff sure, but the melodic stuff? Ehhh. Too dirty sounding and a lot of the melody is pretty low in the mix. Think it would hurt an album like Deliver Us.
