Actually Ryan adams is an alias for Bryan adams
|
| |
is it me or is Ryan Adams progressively sounding more and more like Bryan Adams over the years is this as big of an insult as i think it is?

The way Ryan writes and delivers the verses on particular on this album is just laughable pastiche I'm sorry. The man has a slightly unique voice but that's due to nature (or God if you're so inclined), I'm sure he doesn't have the same fingerprints as Bruce either, but I'm not having it that this isn't as blatant a forgery as you can get without actually marketing yourself as an official tribute act or performing cover versions.

Also it sounds way more like Bruce than Petty:
I'll rate the songs on how much they sound like The Boss:
1. 50%
2. 45%
3. 95%
4. 85%
5. 100%
6. 75%
7. 60%
8. 65%
9. 200%
10. 85%
11. 90%
12. 110%
At least I found a way to quantify a quality about these songs, obviously quality itself was out of the question naturally, as they have next to no inherent creative quality.
After four full listens I'm sad to report this is staying on the shelf now, remembering this album will be like trying to recall the taste of a piece of rice paper.

Wow, harsh review. I do find this guy hugely overrated. Never understood all the fuss. I do have Heartbreaker in my collection, but I agree that even on that album, supposedly his best, there's really nothing interesting to be found. This guy and his music are very forgettable.

"Wow, imagine when instantradical claps his ears onto War on Drugs - will result in a head exploding orgasm of force 10 magnitude"
Get over yourself dude.
I first listened to them about four years ago. WoD is good but I can only take them in small doses, Lost In The Dream is a good album but has too many over-long and unfocused songs. More like Americana filtered through the lens of shoegaze/dream pop. Doesn't sound all that much like RA's 2014-present sound.

I've listened again and I take it back, this is a groundbreaking album of totally fresh sounds
It took a lobotomy, a bang on the head and someone pressing one of those MiB memory pens in my face but yup, this album is unlike anything I've heard before

This review is the worst thing I've ever read on this site. Congrats

Ok, the Independent quite like the album but 'the biggest touchstone, and the one Adams is most naturally equipped to handle, is Bruce Springsteen, whose introspective mode of brooding, weather-beaten self-flagellation is impressively evoked'.

This is pretty good on first listen.
