I think the production on this is better than on Joy of Motion

Just too much slap guitar to be anything over a 2.5. It's to the point of being grating to my hears and not pleasant to listen to. This is coming from a HUGE fan of AAL and one that's seen them 3 times live.

I know that's an extremely technical technique, but how would an album of huge amounts of tapping sound? Wait Scale the Summit already did that...

I'm just approaching the end of my first listen so my opinion may not be entirely formed, but I think the slapping is actually pretty well used. I perhaps wish it wasn't so prevalent in parts in lieu of a 'smoother' approach (like we see in The Glass Bridge) but in Arithmophobia the slapping really adds some grit to it.

EDIT: Bloody hell Apeirophobia's a beautiful ending

This is addicting af. Not really any filler on here, although my favs are probably Ectogenesis, Inner Assassins and Private Visions.

Not quite enough flare on this one compared to previous releases

I feel like this is more showy on a technical level but less so in regards to hooks and catchiness in the actual songwriting, there's less metal and electronica sections too.

IMO, the difference between these guys and most other wankfest acts is that I think they do everything with a purpose instead of just being like 'LOOK WHAT I CAN DO. I BET YOU CAN'T PLAY THAT.'

I don't really want to dwell on it too much, but that's kinda what I meant by the summary, but just didn't word it well.

Of course this is technically proficient, but on initial listens it came off as probably their least technical release in certain ways, not like that's what matters but still. Perhaps because it hasn't such next level moments as On Impulse/CAFO/An Infinite Regression intros or Mind-Spun verse etc. But this is slowly growing to be just as good as s/t and JoM for me.

I don't think I have any need for this band anymore. I got nothing out of this.

Except for the drumming on the 2nd track. Jesus.
