yeah but the rule applies, if you have a chick with a guitar as an uprising genre we can talk about Father John Misty as a "dude with a beard with a guitar thing". Whaddaya think?

sounds to me like he sees it as some sort of gimmick or something, thats what i was getting at.

@Dewinged
okay fair yeah, she's kicking ass in that regard. i disagree that she's making things more personal tho, and that there's nothing like this album out right now.. this isn't that ground-breaking. it's just slightly dark alt rock

"its not that different from before,"
disagree hard. she kinda went full rock here. her debut is much more a folk album than anything. different strokes and all but for me, this album doesn't hold a candle to some heavy ocean..

Yeah style wise might not be ground breaking, it's just the way she does it and the production of the album, the way she researched and came up with her sound, that acoustic through a bass amp, great stuff.

I say it's more personal because in several interviews she has severe issues when talking about it. The album followed a really down in a hole dark period in her life.

But don't get me wrong, I love Some Heavy Ocean as much as this one my man.

i wasn't doubting the personal nature of the album, just that it was 'more personal' than before, but i guess i wasn't aware of those circumstances. makes sense for something like this to come from that kind of place. nonetheless there's only a few songs i really dig here *shrugs*

you know man, it's usually that cliché right? like "nah my last album is more personal blah blah". It wasn't until I got the vynil that I could appreciate the hair in her legs. In that moment I knew this shit was real.

at the end of this interview it shows a little clip of her playing live. shes playing Marked for Death and theres heavy metal-esque distortion. it sounds so goddamn cool.

i had no idea she played with metal bands, thats fucking awesome. she has quickly become a huge inspiration to me in my own writing.

"It wasn't until I got the vynil that I could appreciate the hair in her legs. In that moment I knew this shit was real."

the album cover for this is perfect. most artists want to look their best when they put themselves on an album cover. she looks like she hadnt slept in days.
