I really only listen to Insomnium's first three albums. Is this and the newest album worth a shot?

The first 3 are my favorite by a long shot. STDIACD is a masterpiece to me. That being said Winter's Gate was IMO the best thing they've released since ATWW, however, it is a bit more atmospheric and stretched out then ATWW. Not in a bad way, but just in a way. The new one has some great tracks, if you haven't listened to it yet, jam

Thanks guys. Pale Morning Star is pretty good, but it does sound like Insomnium by the numbers a bit. I'll check out Winter's Gate.

I really don't know how to explain what is happening with this album. I mean, it's not innovative or something nor an album that we haven't heard before. But, damn, every note counts! The crescendo moments, the mellow stuff, the refrains, the bridges, the riffs, the production, everything is well executed and it really works as a whole. Even the lyrical concept, that little simple Viking story, is good. The only fault I find and I don't 5 it is the drumming. Not that it's bad. It's just flat without moments of breakthrough out of the box. Just like in last Borknagar album.

I've only ever heard this as one 40-minute piece since that's how the promo came (and how it was played both times I saw them). I'm not sure I'd enjoy having it broken down.
