As a fan of Thrice for a long time, I've always been aware of a tension between cheesy/poignant and good taste/bad taste within their music. This album seems to lean into the bad taste. I'll keep listening, but ick.

They certainly have. I mean, listen to ultra blue, so strange i remember you, the artist in the ambulance, music box, moving mountains, doublespeak, cataracts... they all sound cheesy to me.

Well it's like some sort of pecking order...within the emotive radio rock with gruff vocals genre it's Nickelback < Kings of Leon < the new Thrice
