funny how it's always the case that ppl expect new releases to surpass the efforts that came before. 3.5 is about right. I'm just glad to have new material that is solid and doesn't suck hard.

The Mountain was amazing but this sounds a lot more Haken than The Mountain ever did. Now as much as I love The Mountain, I'm glad this is reminiscent of Visions and Aquarius with a lot of new shit going on

This was a thoroughly enjoyable record for me to listen to, though I have to admit it is something of a grower. I think what has stopped me from rating the album even higher is the pretty standard vocals, but then again, there are songs where the vocal delivery is much more versatile than on others. One example I'll give is the stupendous roar towards the end of "the Architect", and maybe another being the higher-pitched musings on "1985" and beautiful closer "Bound by Gravity" respectively. Aside from that, the vocals don't do much for me. But then there's also the intricate musicianship and very mature songwriting to make up for any vocal flaws present. "1985" and "The Architect" alone make this album almost irresistible for me, and "Earthside"'s majestic musical performance means it'll be one of my favourite songs of 2016.
Put simply, it's another record which means Haken are doing things so, so well.

started listening to this yesterday, and I'm digging it so far. Haken is a lot of fun to listen to. I agree w/ toondude that the keyboard work is sometimes a little absurd. There were some passages on 1985 sounded like a straight up parody of dream theater lol. Still was a cool song though. Overall though this seems like a hella fun album and I'll probably end up listening to it a lot.

The growls on "The Architect" are guest vocals FWIW. I just can't get past how much of a direct Opeth ripoff that entire section is. Seriously.

damn there's growls on this album? didn't get that far into that song haha...I stopped about halfway through the first 15 min epic

The vocals are some of the best parts of this, which is even more impressive given the genre they're playing.

Whaaaa? The 11:30 mark section? Sounds more like Leprous' Bilateral, musically speaking. I already know Einar does the growls there and he does a fine job,
