Was this a grower for anyone, because I'm trying so hard to like it but I still don't dig it nearly as much as their last album

Agree, this is definitely their best imo. I enjoyed this more or less immediately too even though I wasn't huge on DM the first time I listened. That has changed rather quickly in the past week for some reason.

Yeah you guys are right the riffs did finally get to me.
A lot of the DM tropes really annoyed me, some still do, but I can look past it now. It's just shit like Cannibal Corpse, I can't take it seriously at all. But thankfully most quality DM bands leave the goresex out of it.

Back on topic this album is great, riff after the intro on Ozymandias is catchy as fuck.

Yeah, yeah. Exactly. It's the "Fucked with a Knife" and goreporn fetishization that makes it not appeal as much to me. It just feels juvenile. Which is a pretty shallow criticism, I know. Like not listening to a band because you don't like their name or something like that. There's plenty of DM I haven't heard yet so one day after more of it I'll probably get over it.

The general gore themes and stuff don't bother me. The integration of sexual stuff just seems like cheap shock value.

"Brutal" is cool with me, like I like Autopsy a lot. It's the sex shit, feels like middle school shit to me. But yeah if the music is good it shouldn't really matter.

The more I talk about it the more I appreciate my reasoning is lame and I should probably just czech some CC soon.
