Just make sure you read the book and AVOID the awful film like the plague.

the animated film is okay. has more of a childish wonder to it than the book, which gets very dark sometimes -- Blackavar's torture, Fiver's apocalyptic premonitions, Woundwort's cannibalism, the Black Rabbit of Death, and a general state of dystopia once they hit the Drought.

Film is just a very narrow and shortsighted retelling of an extremely deep and impactful book. The book leaves you thinking for weeks and the movie just leaves you feeling bored and empty.

I disagree about the film being bad. Is it the book? Not at all, but it does some things very well, in particular the very beginning of the film.

I really need to listen to this bands discography again soon. Barely remember shit but I do remembering me loving it when I did listen

I hated the film in almost every aspect but I'm also not very favourable to film adaptations of novels in general. My two favourite books ever (Watership Down and The Shining) were both adapted into dogshit travesties of films so I cam barely take it seriously in most cases...

That said, i do think Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and No Country for Old Men are brilliant adaptations of the source material so maybe it's not a problem with adaptations so much as it is just a problem with the films being bad? Hmmm

I think the problem with film adaptations is when they have to cut too much content or they change things for absolutely no reason. Tinker and Country are basically just the books but in film form.

Well No Country is basically written like a screenplay anyway. But Tinker Tailor makes some pretty vast and really cool changes in the film that worked wonderfully.

Republic of Heaven rivals Neurosis’ & CoL’s best tracks.

I loved this for a while, but the quarter-note chugs that last like five minutes stall this out for me lately.

When other bands do that repeat-one-riff-for-five-minutes thing, I get bored as fuck. When these guys do it? Heavenly.

I'm trying to understand why I love this yet don't get on with the slightly sludgier repetitive stuff (like Thou for instance), guess I must just like the more atmospheric/post-metal side of the genre. The repetition & slow builds in themselves clearly aren't the issue.

I'm with you there. It just works so well in post-metal. You really get to lock in to the groove. Can't get behind stuff like Thou at all.

It's been at 4.3 for ages, since the first time I checked this band page anyway (which was way before I actually listened to it).
