How? It's basically the same album.

it's less of everything. to me this is a very generic, safe version of their sound. nothing is nearly as catchy or melodic or dark or varied as bones.

I think it's actually more catchy & way more consistent, just lacking any truly awesome moments like The Mother We Share.

It's a trade-off, to me they're both 3.5's but I slightly prefer this one.

mother we share, gun, sink, tether, lies, night sky, science/visions, and caught by the throat - i don't think there's a single song on here better than any of those tbh. this is catchy but sometimes in a really annoying way (bury it).

Meh I think you're overrating a good portion of the songs in your list, as mother we share is the only one I'd say is far above the rest. Clearest Blue, Playing Dead, Leave a Trace are all on par with any of the ones you said, plus the worst songs on this >>> the worst songs on bones.

Yeah Gyro I think it's just a case of you overrating Bones as a whole (which is fine; love what you love!) so you were always going to either adore this just as much or be disappointed.

concur that gyro is overrating bones. claiming that half the songs on that record are better than "leave a trace" and "clearest blue" is an indefensible opinion

Most of TBOWYB is better than just about anything here though. Even the bonus tracks on TBOWYB

clearest blue and leave a trace aren't even that good though. leave a trace is one of the only songs on the album that would prob fit the mold of bones, but there are still plenty of songs on bones much better than it.

Gyro you're so hooked up on Bones, should of gone into this with an open mind. I don't know how you're going to enjoy something if you're constantly pitting it against something else, which is what it seems like you're doing. Every Open Eye is it's own body of work, it might share similiarites, it may not. Treat it as that rather than comparing every part of it to Bones.
