Only thing hipster about this band is that it consistently gets best new music from pitchfork as well as really high ratings. Honestly, it deserves them though
I wasn't surprised by their praise or Sunbather but I was actually shocked by their rating of this album. I didn't expect them to give it over a 7.5. For one, it's more bleak and two, they never give the album after a band's breakthrough album a good rating for some reason.

To be fair the way they dress and the guitarist's rat-tail is pretty hipster-esque. Either way, I don't see why we should associate visual aesthetic with music, at least when it comes to listening to the records. If that were the case, I would probably really fucking hate most black metal.

don't really care at all if they're hipsters or if hipsters like them, but they definitely have some hipster in them imo

Their visual/clothing style is pretty hipster. The skinny jeans, perfect hair, etc. Definitely won't dispute that. This album just seems less accessible off the bat than Sunbather was to me. Just my personal take. Not sure how that will impact their listener base.

I'd like to see more people talking about how much better the vocals are on this release. He sounds pissed.

if pitchfork loves it, the change'll be barely noticeable

It gives brainless people something to talk about.

Hipster is literally the most annoying word in the world used to describe things honestly.

This site's ratings usually follow pretty closely to Pitchfork's. Do you consider highly rated albums here to be hyped by hipsters?
|
| |
for the bigger modern acts here (Arctic Monkeys, Deafheaven, etc.) yeah
|
| |
Or maybe it's just that people with better taste overall have better music taste too?
