The other Acts are different, imo, since this one is such a product of Casey's evolution since Act III. There's a lot of Color Spectrum-style versatility here as well as dense classical influence from his outing as a composer post-Migrant (which I also love, but some other folks don't).

Act II is mandatory since it's almost universally recognized as their best.

"really love The Color Spectrum, is Migrant worth a listen?"

I really think it's wonderful and underrated. To be honest, I listen to it more than the other Acts these days. "An Escape" is a personal favorite. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vpCl-0HJU0)

For me it's probably

1. Act III

2. Act II

3. Migrant

4. Color Spectrum

5. Act I

not sure where Act IV fits in yet. He's so consistently good though, there's not much difference in quality between any of them, so there's almost no point in ranking

II=IV > III=Migrant > I (and I quite like I)

Can't really classify Color Spectrum because of its scope in comparison.

But yeah, was jamming II again and, at least right now, I enjoy IV at least as much if not more.

The first three Acts were all important to me growing up, but they're not consistent. Act II is very spotty, and very long, and I think it is inferior to Act III for its glut. Casey's ambition has always been admirable, and it's produced some amazing music, but I believe Act IV - after many listens - is his first genuine masterpiece. It's very consistent, and manages to have a bit of all the Acts, Color Spectrum, and Migrant featured.

Act IV > Act III > Color Spectrum > Migrant > Act II > Act I

All of them are good.

All of the Acts, also, would be top-notch if Casey re-recorded them, IMO (except maybe III). On the first two, the production, the arrangements, lyrics, and Casey's vocal performance can all be massively improved upon, and it gives me shivers to think about how they would sound.

Act I actually is kind of perfect from a songwriting perspective -- imagine those songs with Casey's current production, arrangement and vocal ability. Damn.

Act II's Procession, Smiling Swine, Evicted, Blood of the Rose, Where the Road Parts are all a bit lack-lustre to me (although they all have brilliant parts -- but inconsistent).

The Color Spectrum is infamously inconsistent, but impossible to fault because of its grandeur. This Bosy, Take More Than You Need, A Curse of Cynicism, Stuck on a Wire Out On a Fence, A Sea of Solid Earth, The Dead Don't Starve, The Canopy, Crow and Cackle, Too Late, Fall and Flee could all be passed by.

Migrant has Girl on it, and I think that song is not good. Cycles, Kiss of Life, Shouting at the Rain are all fine to go in my opinion, but the rest of the album is beautiful. This Vicious Place is not loved well enough imo

opinionz

This album has nothing I would get rid of. Zip. Zilch. Nada. He's done it.

Basically he's gotten better as he's gone on, and I completely agree. The Color Spectrum still holds a slight edge over this to me, but for having only been out a week , Act IV is making a push. I think in a couple years I may look back at this as his best to date (and a 4.5 probably).

It's also an excellent point about re-recording the old acts...I think he could make them sound so much better now.
