Does the second half ever get as good as the first? Asking long-time fans.
Everything up to (and inc.) A Noise Severe is close to peak tG and the contrast with the second half sometimes feels quite stark
overall I’d still take it over ITE (for instance) but the highs there feel more evenly spread. I just wondered whether this was a common opinion

Definitely. I think Box-The Quite One-Home is one of my ultimate highs from this. So the second half definitely lives up to the first for me.
I think Solace is kind of a watershed moment, it divides the album in two nice halves, with the first being a little more immediate/individual peaks, and the second being more of a brooding, atmospheric trip.

So true Trif. Solace is probably my fav one here. Such a strange and lovely song.
I think In Between is the only one that prevents me
from increasing my rating.

Solace is Home's Liberty Bell. And I like it.

was just dropping in to say Solace is really nice, better than I remember. The t/t is a wonderfully fitting closer too
One of the best gatherings, so naturally one of the best musics. It’s getting there. I seem to revisit this more often than anything of theirs outside of Nighttime and Souvenirs

"The t/t is a wonderfully fitting closer too"
That t/t is one of my fave Gathering tracks oh my. Also this is secretly one of their best, so very much agree with that comment Demon!

Word. Planning on hammering a lot of tier 1/2 artists this year. Going through methodically. Deep diving. Whatever I feel like really, but essentially prioritising the music I already have an affinity with

Did that too (last year) and it was wonderful. Finally didn't feel the pressure to check as much new stuff as I could anymore. Enjoy! I'll be seeing you in the special threads then 💚💖😍

Damn, Waking Hour is such an amazing song… the groove, Anneke ´s interpretation, the vocal arrangements… pure gold. I love the lyrics too, it gives you hope when you’re down. I’m getting through a divorce and thank God The Gathering are here.

I bet these guys could provide solace and / or comfort to an extent. I’m sorry to hear about that tho because I can’t imagine what going through that would be like
This is one of my fave Gatherings these days and their albums (or threads on here!) are generally pretty nice places to be (last I checked this was a 4.5)

I think this might be overtaking Nighttime for 2nd place. So many great moments in amongst such a seamless atmosphere. All-time alt / prog rock band, easily

Absolutely, 100% agreed.
This is one of their finest moments, the atmosphere is almost unparalleled really. Very consistently high quality throughout and great build up to that GOAT t/t, which is one of my personal fave tunes.
This one has a special place in my green heart of hearts.

this will always be the #1 Gathering album for feels
and also one of their hardest records to rank???

Yeah true. Feels here, there, and everywhere on this one.
It's been comfortably Top 3 forever for me, with Planet? and Souvenirs. But I get what you mean somehow too, complicated 😵💫

I get that this has some serious feels. Souvenirs is a very mood specific vibe but it’s unparalleled when that time comes (and even harder to rank because oh wow 😯 it’s perfect)
This is still marginally top heavy if I’m nitpicking, but I’ve learnt to love the second half

Box is a stunningly beautiful song
Digging into this band's stuff over the past few months has been a treat. I've still only heard the Anneke albums, but my God what a 6-album run that is
