Don’t listen to too much prog metal but been on a binge of this band lately. Anyone rec some genuinely similar bands? To either era.

You might enjoy Evergrey in that case, and Seventh Wonder

Thanks I’ll check. Big fan of power-thrashy riffing and virtuosolos

I'd rec Evergrey's album's 2-5 at the very least, solid stuff. I think you might even enjoy their more polished modern albums. Those have received loads of traction in the metal world compared to their older stuff
Edit: Also worth checking is Fates Warning's APSOG. Not power prog, but moody prog metal that's got melodic and technical parts. And also both Arch/Matheos albums, those have some incredible guitar playing and drumming. I keep remembering more haha

My fingers hurt just listening to Romeo's riffs on Nevermore. What a monster

Came back to this.
Eh, at least the Legend is a banger, although the melody progression could be more original.
Oh yeah, Nevermore is also quite decent and it probably has the best chorus on the album

Truth be told, last 2 albums were carried by Russel so hard
|
| |
They lost their cheesy flamboyant joy/fantasy vibe from their previous albums and it makes their later stuff much less special for me.

Yeah this band just gets better with age
Swansong is one of the best prog ballads ever

"Underworld, T/t, Kiss Of Fire & Swansong " are my top3 great beast in here. m/
Stellar musicianship as always. Growing potential for a better appreciation is anticipated on this.
Just finished re-jaming their discog, such a consistent, talented band.
